Why is it minimun wages are so low and cost of living is high? Why is it even someone with all the skills and experience get turned away for a better paying job? Any one who says you dont have to have a minimun wage job is not in this perdicament. You can apply all you want, but the employer will higher the cheapest work with out experince. So your skills are actually a curse. If an employer sees you have skills he will asume to find some one with less because he can make more money by paying less.I know from ease dropping on a managers meeting. So we are screwed no matter what. You cant say its our falt for lack of anything when the real problem is the one running the show.Would it be my fault if you decided to hire a less experienced person with less skills than I to save you money?you can say its harder to train some one with experince than it is to train some one with less a rebutle still the facts are they dont want to pay bottum line.

  1. The minimum wage is for entry level, non skilled labor. I know of no one who works for the minimum wage. If you have skills and a work ethic, neither will you. If you strive for the minimum, that's all you're going to achieve.

Many factors go into hiring; experience, education, work record, how you present yourself during an interview etc. It's not all about who will work for the lowest wage. If you concentrate on being a victim, you will always be unhappy. If you concentrate on success, you will find your lot in life will improve dramatically.

By the way, why are you, "ease dropping on a manager's meeting" at work instead of doing your job?

  2. Don't know what industry you're in, but what you're saying is not true across the board. In my industry we prefer skills and experience and we pay higher wages for it. So there goes your argument ...

  3. Every industry may be a little different. Some jobs will not take entry level and only seek experienced workers. Looking for a job is a full time job. Keep trying and not only look for your skill area but look for a supervisor or human resource person who sincerely  likes you. In many parts of the country, especially California, many times it is more important "who" you know rather than "what" you know.

  4. I am sure you do not want to hear this, but anyone with presumed "skills" that can still be compared to someone making minimum wage have absolutely no skills what so ever.  Any skills above someone off the street could probably be taught in an afternoon with a video.

I have "skills" that my current employer has spent over 100K to 200K developing.  Without a doubt my skills are a blessing and not a curse.  This is the same with any true skill.
