Thank you from one curious American

  1. AVERAGE $30 PH

    20% TAX

$10 A GALLON RISING AS I TYPE 60% IS TAX

HOPE THIS HELPS OUR ECONOMY LIKE YOURS IN THE DOLDRUMS CHEERS

  2. As a shift working electrical technician I earn around $25 an hour, 25% of that goes to tax and national insurance contributions. Petrol is taxed massively at around 70% and is currently anywhere up to $10 a US gallon.

Also 17.5% of the price of pretty much everything you buy (there are some exceptions) is tax (VAT)

Car road tax is anything up to $400 per year and set to rise steeply.

You also pay an annual tax to your local council depending on the value of your home. Ours is $2000.

So we pay quite a bit of tax here!

    HTH

  3. Wages depend on the employer as some firms pay higher than others for skilled labour. I guess the average is about £8 to £10 per hour. Tax is approximately 20% of your earnings and then there's the National Insurance contributions on top of that

  4. I don't know how it is in England, but as an American that moved to Ireland, I found that skilled working positions are pretty hard to come by. I am a trained laser technician for sheet metal, and I can't find a job (in that field at least) for the life of me. Luckily, I found a job as a chef due to prior experience working for the Green Bay Packers as one. Talking to a woman at work, who happens to be from England, I guess the UK and Ireland have changed from a lot of industrial jobs to mostly white collar workers. So, if you are thinking of moving, get the job first, so you can put all the paperwork in, and then come. It will just be a lot easier for you. I gotta say though, even though I don't necessarily have the job I want, living here is awesome. Good luck in whatever it is that you're doing!
