  1. I have just returned after a year away and I have been suprised by the inflation running rampant in the country. Prices for everything have increased about forty percent in the last year.

To answer your question, In our area (Mekong Delta) farm workers are making 60,000 dong per day. (a little less than $4). The jobs I have seen posted on Vietnamworks.com for a university graduate are between $400 and $1300 per month for a professional position in HCMC. It costs far more to live in HCMC than it does in the country, yet there is a severe shortage of farm workers due to the low pay and new economic opportunities in the cities and business zones.

The government is trying to control inflation but so far has only managed to crash the stock market (-30%) in the last week or so. Real estate speculation continues although it is hard to imagine how the investors will ever be able to earn enough to get a decent return. Some properties in District one are selling for 1 Ty ($66,000/meter) and million dollar condos are not so rare anymore.

It seems that the country is becoming one with a super rich minority and a bunch of wage slaves to support them.

  2. farmers at the countryside make less than $30/month.

  3. Doctor would make$500- $1500/ mo depend on specialty.  Cosmetic surgeon make more $3000 and up.  Dishonest communists bureaucrats made the most (like bandits) up to millions /year.

  4. Between 600,000 -1,200000 VND=37-75 USD per month.
