Wagner is a welcome addition to our side: Vettori – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board President's XI at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on July 21.
“He was awesome today. He brings a lot of energy. He's a different style of bowler than probably most New Zealanders are used to,” he said. “He runs in hard all day and wants to compete the whole time and I think he's a welcome addition to our side.”
The South-African born Wagner has yet to play for the national side, but could be selected for the upcoming 2-match Test series against the West Indies, due to begin on July 25 in Antigua.
The 26-year-old made a strong impression during the tour match, claiming 2 for 50 in 20 overs, at an economy rate of 2.50, registering the second-best bowling performance of the day in the tourists' camp, following Vettori’s 4 for 48. With a career spanning 55 first-class matches (with an impressive 238 wickets to his name) and 53 list A matches (with 82 scalps to his credit), Wagner has a chance to earn a Test debut if he continues in a similar vein.
Meanwhile, Vettori is returning to the field for the first time after the 2012 Indian Premier League, during which he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in May this year, and is eager to get in some practice for the upcoming Test series.
“Once again for me it's just getting some overs under my belt after a considerably long lay-off, and to be able to bowl 20 overs on a wicket that's similar to the test match wicket is hopefully going to hold me in pretty good stead for the test match,” he said.
