Wahab Riaz: Another World Class All-Rounder in the Making
Pakistan has never relied on too many all-rounders in their team, but the ones who have made their name as all-rounders in the Pakistani squad are praiseworthy. From Imran Khan to Abdul Razzaq, these all-rounders have been a key
element in victories for their country.
An all-rounder is an advantage for any cricket team. After Abdul http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Razzaq-c84421, not a single genuine all-rounder has made his mark from Pakistan in the international arena. Now, when Razzaq is reaching the twilight of his career, Pakistan
has perhaps found another jewel in the form of Wahab Riaz.
Riaz was born in Lahore, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 respectively. His performance was
not mind blowing but satisfactory.
Wahab was finally given a chance to make his Test debut in 2010 at the Oval against England, Riaz took five wickets on his debut Test in just eighteen overs.
Wahab’s career almost came to a controversial end when he was caught in a video with the alleged bookie Mazhar Majeed. Initially he was interrogated by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard, but he was cleared later on. Similarly, he was also cleared
by the ICC to play international cricket, thus saving him from an international suspension as imposed on the other three (Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif) players accused of spot-fixing with the help of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
Wahab Riaz was then selected for the series in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. It was assumed that in the presence of Abdul Razzaq, Wahab might not be given a knock in the series, but luckily for him that did not
happen.
Though Pakistan lost the first One-day miserably to the Proteas, the second ODI was all about Razzaq where he played a miraculous innings winning the match for Pakistan on his own.
After watching Abdul Razzaq’s flamboyant innings, Wahab Riaz must have decided that it was time for him to shine in the next match. Although the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 side lost the third ODI, but it was Wahab Riaz’s hard hitting that got Pakistan
once again a hair away from another win, Pakistan lost that match by just two runs. Wahab scored 21 runs off 11 balls, taking one wicket in that match.
In the third match, it was obvious that this young lad could not only bat, but also hit the ball hard and clean enough to reach the boundary. He re-enforced his batting skills in the fourth One Day international where his side
was yet again in trouble after the top batting order got out quickly while chasing 274 runs posted by South Africa.
Pakistan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 must have been chewing his cap off the moment Abdul Razzaq got out. However, it was Wahab Riaz along with Zulqarnain Haider, who kept Pakistan in the match. Riaz hit some impressive shots off a decent
South African bowling, ending up scoring 18 runs off 10 balls including 2 impressive boundaries. Nonetheless, he was run out before steering his side to a series-levelling win. Finally, Pakistan won by one wicket in the end.
The way this young talented bloke has played in the last two ODIs against a formidable South African side there is no doubt left in the fact that he can certainly become another classy all-rounder for Pakistan.
