http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784: Friends Life Twenty20
An all-round effort from Pakistan’s, Wahab Riaz, guided Kent to victory over Glamorgan by six wickets and two balls remaining in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Saturday, June 11th, 2011. The
hosts piled up 154 runs in their allotted 20 overs, but failed to defend, as Kent reached the target in 19.4 overs, losing just four wickets. Glamorgan’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028, was the top scorer in the match, scoring 65 runs, but his effort went in vain
in the end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Key-c2349, who is the skipper of Kent, chose to field first after winning the toss. The pitch was good for batting, but it also had some assistance for the bowlers, so a healthy competition between bat and ball was expected.
The home team’s captain opened the innings alongside Mark Cosgrove and the pair gave a solid start to their side. They put together 69 runs for the first wicket partnership before the latter got out. He managed a quick fire 47 runs from 31 balls in his knock,
smashing seven fours and two massive sixes.
Things remained under control for Glamorgan though, as the first-drop, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jim-Allenby-c1695, batted nicely with Petersen, constructing a solid 53-run stand for the second wicket. However, he failed to capitalise on the start he got to his innings and was sent back
to the pavilion after adding 20 runs to the total from the same number of deliveries.
Petersen tried to bat until the end, but got out in the final over of the innings. He scored 65 runs off 56 balls with the help of four fours and one massive six. The South African paced his innings nicely and didn’t take too many risks, guiding his side
to a decent total.
There was no significant performance from the home team’s lower-order batsmen and they reached 154. South Africa’s medium pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CK-Langeveldt-c1270, was expensive but took two wickets in the match. He got terrific support from Wahab, who grabbed one wicket
and didn’t give away too many runs away in his four overs.
The visitors got off to a decent start, as their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 and Key put together 39 runs for the first wicket. However, they gave their wickets away after scoring 24 and 19 runs respectively.
They were followed by two more wickets, but Sam Northeast and Wahab guided the team out of trouble. The pair collected 66 runs for the fifth wicket partnership, which remained unbroken.
Northeast top scored the innings with 33 runs whereas Wahab scored 32 from 15 deliveries, smashing two fours and the same number of sixes.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Croft-c2344 picked up a couple of wickets for Glamorgan, but didn’t get much support from the other bowlers.
