What kind of ants are these? They are everywhere in my house and are getting kind of annoying. They travel along the ceiling where it connects with the wall. Large groups can be seen in the corners (pic 3). I can't seem to trace where they are coming from. How do I kill them and get rid of them for good?

  1. o my gosh. i have ni idea what type of ants you have. try ant killer or insect killer. some come in little cardboard traps so that the ant will smell it and them go inside the box and get trapped.

  2. Your ants are Sugar Ants  to get rid of them make a mixture of Boric Acid and sugar water. The sugar in the mixture attracts the ants; the boric acid slowly poisons them after they eat it. You can buy Boric acid  at your drug store or hardwarwe store.  See web Link below for a lot information

  3. Ortho makes a great ant killer. You can get it at your local WalMart or hardware store. It comes in a spray. It's works for internal and external. For external use, you spray it along the base of your home, and it should last the season. If you have ant mounds in your yard, you can use Amdro. Sprinkle it around the mound, the ants take it inside the nest and it kills all ants including the queen. Good luck!

  4. What size are these ants?  I would tend to suggest these are of the genus Tapinoma, commonly called 'ghost ants' due to their transparent body parts.  Sugar ants are quite large, about 1 cm in length, whereas ghost ants are very small, only a couple of millimetres long.  Ghost ants don't sting or bite either and won't cause any damage to your home.

The link belows gives you ideas on how to get rid of them, but if they aren't causing you harm I wouldn't be advising you to get rid of them.  They will just clean up any bits of food and dead insects around your house so if you're fairly clean, they shouldn't pose much of a problem.
