  1. Put it on the special scene mode

and there should be a beach mode

click that, it's as easy as that?

  2. Your camera may be under-exposing.  This happens in snow or at the beach pretty regularly.  The camera's meter gets fooled by all the reflectivity of sand, water or snow and makes the settings too low for proper exposure.  If you have a beach or snow mode use that.  Or you can use the exposure compensation buttons to increase the exposure until the picture looks good.  Or you can set your own exposure manually.  For a ballpark figure, meter from a section of the sky which doesn't include the sun.  Then open or close from there.

  3. If you have exposure lock, take a reading from an area of concrete or tarmac & stick to this as long as the daylight doesn't change.

This is what professional photographers do - it's called an average exposure reading & should give you better contrast & shading in your pictures. If lighting conditions change, take another reading.

Also try not to take pictures into the sun - It may be difficult, but try to have the light behind you, or side - on for more dramatic effects.

  4. put it on AUTO. cameras usually have great auto settings especially on a sunny day. dont drop it in the sand!

  5. an outdoors setting
