Question:

Waitering at Small Restaurant?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I want to apply to become a waiter in a Pho Restaurant ( Vietnamese Noodle Beef Soup).

However, I don't know Vietnamese very well. I can only say common things. How can I begin to work here? Can I even apply here?

The menu will probably be both English and Vietnamese so can I pull it off?

Do I have to memorize EVERYTHING on the menu? Do I have to know what each looks like?(because a lot of them look the same with very small variations) How are the tables numbered? Do I have to know the number matching with the food? Do I get to use a notebook to write down what they order?

And Just to help you answer my long list of stupid questions, (sorry for all your hard work dealing with me), this is a pretty small restaurant. It's beside a convienent store...

Thanks, I really need help and thank you in advance.

  1. First of all, you should study first about Vietnamese culture, language & food in particular. Without enough knowledge about Vietnamese culture, language and food, you can't pull it off that much. You'll have a hard time working in this restaurant if you don't even know what's the kind of food being served.

I'll probably say, you should not memorize everything on the menu listed, you just have to familiarize. If you are used to writing their menu with a paper/notebook, then do it, but if the restaurant applies a waiter without any pen & paper, then so do it.-you'll get used to it once in a while.

Also, ask the one whose going to interview you about the questions you have in mind.

Don't get nervous! Be comfortable and have FUN!!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. Being a server myself, I can tell you for sure that each restaurant operates differently. These are questions you'd have to ask when you apply.
