Waiters and waitresses?

Why do waiters and waitresses get so bent out of shape when they don't make much money? They should have been smart enough when they applied for the job that it paid c**p and that they would have to work for tips. They get mad when people don't tip well, they should have know that before they got the job....either get a new job or quit bit*hing!

  1. I guess your really really cheap who ask this question unless your a cheap a** and it bothers you to tip. Someone has to get your dame drink....

  2. so you may want to work for nothing but why should they you cheapsskate

  3. HI, I'm a waitress. I make great money, i have a college education, I'm good at what i do, I like people and i love my job, despite people like you. I'M not bit*hing YOU are!

  4. They get bent out of shape because they're the kind of people who like to get bent of of shape about things. I have been a waitress for 7 years and figure that the good tippers even out the bad tippers and whatever people give me is what I'm going to get. Being a server is a c**p-shoot. It can be really great money, but you have to take into account the economy (do people even HAVE the money to be going out, let alone tip you?), the a**holes, the older folks (who if they are regulars can be such amazing boosts to your day even if they don't tip well, but tip you emotionally by their stories and energy. Or they can just be old farts.)

I agree with you they need to quit b*tching. Life is too short to complain about what you can't fix

  5. You like to elicit controversy, don't you? I've been a server for over 20 years and I'm lucky enough to have made it my PROFESSION. I average $160-$200 a night in tips because I have found that fine dining is not only the best money, but it's what I do best. I serve and I do it well. I'm lucky enough to have repeat clientele who pay me to take care of them and to give them a dining experience, not just sling a steak at them and hold out my hand. I have been stiffed before and it sucks because I have to tip out support staff (bussers, bartenders, food runners) and if you choose to leave me $3 on a $200 tab, I lose money!

I suggest that the next time you dine out, watch the staff for awhile instead of thumbing your nose at them. If you can't see professionalism and an eye for detail, you're probably just at McDonalds. That's okay for you. At least there you won't have to tip.

  6. i guess alot of times when waitresses get mad is cuz sum of them are older, and have worked there for years and can't find another job.. being whatever reason. so they have to rely on being kind to others and hoping it will pay off... basically. i know it is really upsetting to put alot of effort into trying to please people and have them treat you like sh*t

  7. how dare they get mad!!!! just because they wait on someone keep there table clear there glasses full bring them matches extra napkins more splinda listen as you tell them how the food just ain't right bring more silver ware when the kids throw it on the floor. its their job to wait on 10 tables at the same time and just because they get paid $3.00 a hour and people don't want to leave a tip they have no right to be upset they should be ashamed.....................on avg i leave a min of $10 an have left as much as $100

  8. i am a server where i live in georgia.. and i love what i do. and im going to nurseing school to get my rn..so were not the ones bit*hing you most be the one with the problem.. i make good mony at what i do. i can bring home over a hundred dollars in one night..that probably what you make in a week..and we might not bit*h so much if it werent for people like you that ran us half to death and complain alot about there food           a men

  9. Apparently you have never been challenged to attempt a food service position. Until you become brave enough to work for 2-3 dollars an hour, I advise you not to look down your nose. Our food service attendants assume the roles of babysitters, psychologists, nurses, dieticians, diplomats, bouncers, and even chefs at times. In my opinion, those talents warrant much more than a mere two dollars an hour. I believe the employer should pay a minimum wage to the employee. The guest is forced (morally) to ensure that the "waiter/waitress" makes minimum wage thru the tip. At one point, TIPS stood for "to insure prompt service". Today, I believe it means, "to insure poverty soon. " Open up your wallets and let the spiders free!

  10. The reason your meal doesn't cost twice or three times what it does is because restaurants don't pay their waitstaff a good hourly wage.  They rely on the customer to basically pay the servers salary.  So if you don't tip the restaurant loses nothing, you lose nothing, but the server may lose their car. When your late with your car payment the bank usually won't accept the excuse "Sorry, people just don't agree with tipping..."  You really shouldn't be so hard on them.  If nobody were to wait tables who would bring you your snooty wine?

  11. The ones who enjoy their jobs for the most part usually do well for tips.  The ones who are cranky usually don't have a positive attitude and get alot less than their coworkers and they just feel they did the same thing for the same amount of time and have been shorted.  Some just don't get it.  but there are a few customers that can just put them through all kinds of trouble and not tip well, but you are so right.  That happens, it the nature of the business, if they are so unhappy they shouldn't take it out on everybody, just work towards a different line of work.
