Waiters/ waitresses? best answer?

Question

what is the average hourly wage for a waiter/ waitress in a small cafe? this would be full time aprox 8hrs a day?

can you answer also PER HOUR for somebody under the age of 18?

This is hard to answer because waiter and waitresses are allowed to earn under minimum wage, since most good wait persons earn their money in tips. In California, I remember when they earned $5.00 an hour. That would make the wages $40 for the day. HOWEVER, with tips many earn another $80 in tips. Age really has nothing to do with this. If you can do a good job, you can get the tips.

Realistically, you cannot compute an hourly wage. If you want that, work in fast food.

I remember a neighbor of mine worked at the Knott's Berry Place in Buena Park, CA, in the late 1930s when he was a teenager, as a waiter. He received no wages and all of his pay came from tips.

I have no idea where you're from...

But in Australia: anywhere from $9-14 an hour (part time?) My cafe has everybody on part time rates, so I don't know about full time. I think for an 18yo it is around $12 an hour.
