Waiting period for a spousal visa?

i am here in the philippines and my husband is in USA, he applied for a petition for me last May..how many months should i wait for the petition to be granted?

  1. It depends from a lot of factors. Were you married in the Philippines? If yes, then it will be faster. Also it depends in which state he filed. Each state processes their own applications so it depends from the volume of the apps.So, it can be 6 to 7 mo. or up to 2 years.


  2. Realistically, if there are no problems you can expect to get your visa in 8 to 12 months (Feb. to May 2008).

  3. He should have received a receipt with a case number by now (I am assuming that last May means May 2007... if he applied in May 2006 something is wrong because it  should have processed long ago).  You can check the status of the application using that case number either on-line at www.uscis.gov or by calling on the phone.  If you choose to call, have him call from the states rather than you calling from the PI...whoever calls will be waiting on hold for a long time.

    Total processing time for a spousal visa shouldn't be that long (6 to 10 months) if everything is in order.  Good luck
