My friend applied for a job and the company asked for his date of birth.

What kind of background check do they do with the DOB?

Thanks to all who may answer my question. Really appreciate the help :)

  1. anything they want basically, but normally its to see if you are a felon, credit check and  its a basic background check... Some also check for

    Criminal records

    Bankruptcies

    Tax liens

    Civil judgements

    Current and past addresses

    Home value & property

    Possible aliases

    Marriage and divorce records

but its more  a criminal and credit check when applying for most jobs... it could also be your work history

added, DOB is not just what they use, more then likely its the SS#

  2. The date of birth is necessary to conduct a criminal background check.  Criminal records are public records and thus anyone can have access, therefore, courts do not include the social security number on the files.  Since there is not a SSN, the date of birth is used to verify identity of the defendant.  I assume that is the reason for the date of birth.
