Waitresses/bartenders -- ever been accused of fraudulently adding tips to someone's credit card?

I've served ande bartended in a handful of restaraunts over the years but today something came up that completely flummoxed me: someone called in a complaint to the restaraunt where I work saying that their credit card was charged for a tip they didn't leave me. The couple actually even came down to the restaraunt and looked at the signed credit card slip complete with tip and total and claimed that although the signature was theirs, they did not write the tip. They refused a refund or a gift card, and are "contacting their attorneys." Obviously, I didn't write the tip in myself. How should I handle this? It's slanderous and affects my job and my income. What am I facing here?

  1. if you didnt do it you have nothing to be afraid of.

    no evidence

  2. don't worry about it no attorney is going wast they time on such a small matter and it doesn't fall under criminal liability for you. its only a civil matter for the restaurant and the credit card  co.

  3. well, i have heard of that before... how much was the tip for? corprate will bend over backwards and cator to their every whim... unfortanetly. nothing is going to happen. if they were going to sue they wouldnt even have a case. the judge would throw it out. plus they sound stingy, so paying a lawyer $100 and hour over a 10, maybe $15 tip... they wont. they just want another gift card. i am sure thats how they got the first one! it will blow over, dont worry. just hussle to make up for money lost!
