i'm young and attractive just out of high school. I want to make a little cash over the summer before i go of to college. My friend works at a popular resturant in the town where i live. She said she can hook me up. She said she gets around 200-300 on tips a night(weekends). Do you think I should do it or should i just work in a bank or something.

  1. If you can make that much a night I would deffinately work there. I doubt that you could find something that pays more.

  2. It sounds like she earning a lot for any place outside a MAJOR metropolitan area or a SUPER rich touristy area (like Nantucket) - if you are in one - that sounds about right - otherwise - it's really hard to get that much on average (and it's only on AVG, cuz some weeks you make more, others less.) - you have to get the best shifts and be a REALLY good waitress. Not impossible, but tough. And usually you are low on the seniority list to get the best shifts.  And only do it if you REALLY love these things: Dealing with ALL SORTS of people. Odd hours. (It's rarely a 9-5 mon-fri thing - and even if it is - usually don't make that much $$ there). and if your okay with these things: Walking or standing for long shifts, sometimes dealing with jerks, and stressful situations. (It get's HOT in the kitchen.) If you don't know, or aren't the things above - do something else....

  3. It depends on how busy the place is and how your cutomers are. I waitressed before and sometimes I would work my butt off and get hardly anything. It's like taking a gamble. At a bank you will have a set amount of money that will  get for sure, but waitressing you never know what you're going to get. I never walked out of there at the end of the day thinking "wow, I made a lot of tips".
