Waived, Course, General, Total Transfer Credits?

I was accepted to MSU in the spring so I'm going to a local college for a semester. I'm curious about something though, on MSU's transfer website they show you what classes can transfer. But there are four categories (the ones in the question title). What do each of these categories mean? Like just as an example, some courses might transfer like three general credits but thats it. And another might transfer 4 waived credits, 3 course credits, 0, then 3. I'm not sure what this all means.

  1. Waived - you do not have to take a waived course, based on action taken by the admitting college based on your experience, a test score, etc. but you receive no college credit for it.

Course - a course you have already taken is equivalent to a specific course at the admitting college, such as College Composition 101.

General - a course you have already taken is not exactly equivalent to any of the admitting college courses but it is acceptable to apply to general education requirements. For instance, you may have taken a history course which is not exactly like one at the new college but it will count for your general education history requirement.

Total transfer - the total number of credits that will transfer to the admitting college.

I hope this helps and that you will have a great experience at your new institution.
