What have been your highlights of attending wakes in T&T?

  1. Girl I dunno wha' wake you does go to but nearly all I went is real food and drinks.

Hear nah, dat is when the real drinkers does come out. Yuh have the church section singing. Yuh ha the crying section. The card playing section. Yuh ha the two groups ah roamers the drinkers, and tanti and she gossip group.

  2. Boy....Wake is ah real big lime. Ah mean....well you lil sypathetic about whoever died (and sometimes you not to sure either because yuh padner pass and tell yuh boy...it have wake up the road...we could make a gamble on some cyards!)

Its guranteed for some good maco-ing, while prayers going on inside, you hanging man jack out side and hoping they pass another rounds ah crix and cheese! And them boys with the drums sounding good to so...we going home ....after the c**k crow. No jumbie following me home!

  3. gaaad oh TS yuh rite dey dread. It always have a pelau or a soup going on. Let's not forget de crix and coffee, what decent wake eh go have that.

De one highlight of meh wake attending was --

Yuh boy well chatting dis sweet lil half breed, talk goin nice, then BRAPS !! Meh aunty pass and say "oh i see yuh meet your cousin" Ah want to jes call Scotty to beam me up right away. Talk bout shame, ah mean de kinda lines i drop on meh own cousin dread..... it wrong.

But in the end we had a good laugh doh.

Odder dan dat de other ting in dem wake was knock Romy for 25cents and all fours

  4. Dat is what a wake in Trinidad or Tobago is about. Yuh doh go to cry over de body, yuh does go to talk about ole times, drink , eat and remember de life of de person who jus pass.

  5. Girl my Grandmother's wake was also in Tobago  and it was nothing like a Trinidad wake.  My Grandfather's wake on the other hand was held in Trinidad and it was much more different.

    Tobago Wake:

A menu to choose from - Roast Bake with Fried KingFish, Tuna salad or Cheese  There was Puff pastries, Beef Pies, Aloo Pies, Saltfish Accra and the traditional crix and cheese

The were various beverages as well - non-alcoholic and alcoholic

Lots of Jovial singing (the wake was recorded) almost as if it was a huge celebration - I didn't cry till after the funeral!

The entire village seemed to be at the house - we had to erect two huge tents on the street

All Fours like it was a tournament (Trust me it had real drama with the rules as it varies between both islands)

    Trinidad Wake:

    Crix and Cheese

Coffee and a bottle or two of Puncheon

Sombre music by the local church group

All Fours like it was a real tournament (that's the only similarity)
