Question:

Wakeboarding falls...

I have two wakeboards, I have a beginner 143 cm and just recently bought a CWB 133cm. I'm having a hard time with my new CWB board, I go so much faster on it and seem to lose control easier causing some pretty harsh faceplants and falls which is causing me to have to cut my wakeboarding time short. I'm fine on the bigger board and am able to control it but I can't get the same kind of air on it so I really want to learn on my new board. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to ask the driver to slow down a bit?

  1. It sounds to me like with the CWB you are catching more edges witch is caused by turning the board perpendicular to the boat. Beginner boards tend to have much big fins which prevent you from turning sideways but really limit the boards performance. Just take everything easy for a while and make sure you watch you edges, you will have a lot more fun on the CWB. If you slow down the boat you wont necessarily fall less but your falls will be generally less painful. If you have any more wakeboarding questions, go to wakeworld.com

  2. your problem is you have two diffrent rockers on each board

rockers are the curve of the bottom of you board

    you have continues

    and 3 stage

the first one is a smoother more mellow ride made more for carving and longer wider jumps

the second one is a 3 stage and takes more practice and YES ASK THE DRVER TO SLOW DOWN its a diff kindda ride

your board rides lower in the water and will have the tendecy to wonna SLIDE OUT and make you fall more

BUT you do get crazy air.

it takes getting used to is all and just go a bit slower

    and your golden

so thats why you fall more on the other.

    its all good.

  3. seems like the size difference of the boards is considerable. which board is the proper size for your weight? ( if the bigger board is the proper size then maybe you're sinking in the water too much...if the smaller is better then you have sacraficed maneuverability for stability in the past..like going from an SUV to a sports car) is the beginner board a continuous rocker and the other a 3 stage rocker? what about fins? are you using the same on both? it wouldn't hurt to slow down your speed and perhaps shorten your line a bit. are your falls strictly when going W2W or just in general riding? Try stepping back and only try to do 1 wake jumps until you gain confidence on your new board. maybe ,too ,try not pulling out as far when you go to make your progressive edge, you wont generate as much speed then you can go out a little more each time as you get more comfy.
