Wakeboarding/motorboat question...bench at the back?

This has been driving me insane for a while now. I go wakeboarding a lot, but know nothing about boats. There's that bench thing at the very back of my buddy's boat that we all sit on while waiting to take a set, what is that called!?

does it hold water to enhance the wake?  if so, then its a fat sack

I always use it to get up into the boat out of the water and also its very useful for putting your wakeboard on when you are putting it on. (hope you understand what i mean)
