Wakefield Trinity Wildcats hand over a two-year contract to Liam Kaye – Rugby League news
Wakefield based English Rugby League Football Club, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, have handed over a full time contract to their talented academy player, Liam Kaye. The club has confirmed the signing of the new two-year deal with the halfback Kaye, in a statement
released on their website, on Monday, August 01.
This is the third professional deal signed by the club with their own academy player to further develop and enhance the skills of star academy recruits. Besides Kaye, Chris Annakin and Lucas Walshaw have also signed their respective professional deals with
Wildcats.
Wildcats Chief Executive Officer, James Elston, has expressed his delight at the signing of the professional deal with Kaye. Commenting on the occasion, he reiterated the club’s initiative to retain academy players within the club, instead of the losing
them out to the other teams participating in either Super League or the Cooperative Championship.
Elston has praised the skills and abilities of the Kaye and termed him as “fantastic young player”. He added that the interest shown by the other clubs speaks volumes of the talent the youngster posses.
Elston further added, “He (Kaye) is a very talented half back that enjoys defending and it’s fantastic that we have captured his signature for the next two years. I am certain that there are some very exciting things to come from this young player.”
Trinity’s halfback Liam Kaye has expressed his pleasure on signing his first professional contract. He said, “I’m really pleased to have signed a first team deal with the club.” He is renowned for his explosive ball tackling and carrying skills, which is
coupled with attacking and defencive skills.
The 19-year-old Kaye, joined the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Academy under 18 Academy member, from Bradford Bulls Academy, in 2010. Before Bulls, Kaye has spent some time at the Leeds Rhinos as Scholar.
In last season of Super League, Kaye has made two appearances for the Wildcats senior team. On both occasions, he delivered exceptional performance on the field. He delivered some sensational performances in last year’s Rugby League 9s tournament.
Kaye further added, “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Wakefield and I’m glad I have another two years here.” He has expressed his confidence that with his hard work, he will become the regular member of the regular senior squad.
Kaye added that training and playing with the senior and experienced players will help him to further develop his skills and abilities.
Jeremy Smith currently is Wildcats first choice half back. The 31-year-old Smith, is playing for different professional rugby league clubs since 2005, and his presence will help Kaye to develop his skills required to perform at the senior level.
