Wakefield Trinity Wildcats secure the services of Crusaders’ utility back Vince Mellars to three-year deal
Belle Vue based English Rugby League club, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, has signed the Crusaders’ utility back Vince Mellars on a long-term deal. Mellars will join the Wildcats at the end of
the 2011 Engage Super League season for a three year stint.
Crusaders officials have confirmed the departure of their experienced centre Mellars from the club at the end of the ongoing season, in a statement released on their website on Monday, August
8.
The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have handed over a three-year contract to the Mellars, as they continue their drive to continue their squad, to become a reputable force in the Super League.
Crusaders' versatile backs player Mellars has played at both centre and at winger positions for the squad.  Mellars has expressed his pleasure on signing the new deal with the Wildcats. He
said, “I'm very happy to be coming to Wakefield and I'm really looking forward to the next three years here.”
Mellars also has expressed his satisfaction on securing a long-term deal, which according to him will help him a great deal in having a stable playing future.  He has praised the club’s environment,
management and coaching staff.
The 27-year-old Mellars has also congratulated the Wildcats on securing their new three-year license to play in the Super league competition. Additionally, he has thanked the duo of James Elston
and Andrew Glover for providing him an opportunity to play at Wildcats.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Chief Executive Officer, James Elston, has expressed his delight at signing  Mellars. He said, “We are thrilled to have secured Vince's signature for the next three
years. He is a dynamic and versatile player and his presence in the Wildcats squad over the next three seasons will be a great boost.”
Elston has praised the skills, abilities and personality attributes of the Mellars and termed him as an “incredibly talented player.”
Porirua born Mellars started his professional rugby league career with the New Zealand Warriors in 2003.  He made seven appearances for the Warriors and scored a try. At the start of the 2005
season, he joined Cronulla Sharks, where in-spite of his exceptional performance in the season for them, he was not given an extension in the contract.  He made five appearances for Sharks and scored two tries for them.
In 2006, Mellars joined the Sydney Roosters, where he made 12 appearances for them and scored three tries.  Later he made a switch to Rugby Union in 2008 and return to the Rugby League at the
start of the 2009 season.
In 2010, Mellars joined the Crusaders, where he so far has made 41 appearances for Crusaders. He also scored 16 tries/downs.   He will be looking forward to carry his impressive form to the
Wildcats, to help them to better their performance in the Super League competition.
