Wakefield Trinity Wildcats sign Andy Ellis from Harlequins - Rugby League

The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed up Andy Ellis from the London based professional rugby league franchise Harlequins to a three- year contract. The club released a statement on August 4th acknowledging the acquisition.
Ellis, who is currently representing the Quins, plays as the hooker. His contract term with the Trinity will begin from the start of 2012 after he has served his time with his current squad.
Commenting on the latest developments in his career, the English hooker stated, “I can't wait to begin training and start this new challenge. I'm confident Wakefield are a team that will go far next year.”
Ellis was excited to be part of the Wildcats and believes that his franchise has a bright future attached to itself. While speaking, he also mentioned that he could not wait for the training to begin.
While admiring Ellis’ skill as a hooker in rugby league, James Elston, who is the chief executive of Wakefield, stated, “Andy is a great signing for us. His experience in the hooking role will be an asset to the side next year and his ability to cross over
the line will be a further boost."
In Elston’s view, Ellis’ distinguished skill to cross the line will benefit the franchise alot in improving their current game.
Ellis’s career took off with the Hull KR in 2005, where his performance was definitely noteworthy. He swept the squad to the title of the National Rail Champion 2005, and the following year he advanced into the Super League games.
Soon after that Ellis switched to another franchise, the Barrow Raiders, where he blossomed as a player and exhibited his full potential.
In the year 2009, he had the honour of being the Cooperative Championship player of the year and his contribution was commendable as he led the Barrows to the bag the Cooperative Championship Grand Final.
After completing his term with Raiders, he was taken onto a two-year contract with Harlequins in 2007 that will expire by the end of this year.
When Ellis joined in with Quins back in 2010, along with Oliver Wilkes, Ryan Esders, and Matt James and was eager to begin training with them. Ellis stated, “I've had a great few years with Barrow and feel I am now ready to step up to the next level and
play Super League with Harlequins.”
Brian McDermott, the head coach of Harlequins RL, also acknowledged that Andy was an exceptional player, whose term with Barrow was studded with class, as he had won the title of being the Player of the Year for the Cooperative Championship which was won
by his team.
His performance profile was outstanding this year too as he did not miss even a single game out of the total of 23 Super League games.
