Wakefield Wildcats interested in having Keith Senior on board - Rugby

John Kear, coach of Wakefield Wildcats, has shown interest in recruiting Keith Seniors for 2012, whose contract completed with Crusaders as they pulled themselves out of the Super League licensing process on Monday, July 25, after being part of the process
for many months.
This last minute withdrawal from application by Crusaders was confirmed on July 26, by Rod Findlay, the Chief Executive of Crusaders, on account of the financial constraints faced by the club.
With the Crusaders’ withdrawal out of the Super League’s licensing process for 2012- 2014 games, fans and players are disappointed. However, the club will focus on its plans of playing for North Wales, as was confirmed by Findlay.
The Rugby Football League’s (RFL) announcement on Tuesday, July 27, not only brought bad news for Crusaders, but led to the unexpected inclusion of the Wildcats in the Super League License for 2012 to 2014 games, after the Crusaders had pulled out of the
equation.
This heart-wrenching news has angered many, including Senior, who had just joined Crusaders on July 7, for the Super League contract of two years and this contract would have been viable only if Crusaders were part of the fourteen franchises to contest the
Super League games until 2014.
Prior to the announcement, speculations were that Wildcats will be dropped out of the Super Rugby License 2012. It has been acknowledged by the Wildcats’ coach that due to the uncertainty pertaining to their future, they were not as vigilant as the other
franchises as far as recruitment was concerned.
With Senior’s recent loss of employment, Wildcats’ coach has shown interest in recruiting him for the 2012- 2014 Super Rugby games. Senior was also part of Kear’s Challenge Cup-winning Sheffield Eagles outfit in 1998.
While commenting on the vast experience of the 35-year-old veteran, Kear stated, "He has a wealth of experience and that is one of things we have missed. We are in Super League XVI now and Keith has played in 16 of those years. We have got a good base here
but might have an overload of young players still learning their trade. It would be nice to get some quality, marquee players in amongst that. Keith fits the bill.”
He also mentioned that Senior has years of experience which is lacking in players who are currently part of his squad as they are fresh and still learning to hone their skills to perfection.
Kear further added that he has worked with Senior when he was new to the game and his successful run is studded with Super League titles, the Challenge Cup and along with representations of Great Britain.
Kear also said that Senior has blossomed into a quality veteran from whose skill his recently qualified club can benefit.
