Wakefield confirm release of Ben Jeffries to Bulls – Rugby League news
European Super League's Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have announced the release of their standoff and halfback Ben Jefferies on May 7th. The end of obligations with the Wildcats will allow Ben Jeffries to re-join the West Yorkshire based Bradford Bulls.
Jefferies played in the National Rugby League before he moved to the Wakefield in 2002. He started his professional rugby career in 2001 with St George Illawarra Dragons. He however only played a single game and moved to West Tigers the same year.
He played 27 games in the season for the West Tigers in which he scored 38 points including seven tries. His exceptional performance has helped him earn a contract with Wakefield in 2002 where he remained for five years. This was his first stint with the
Wakefield in which he made 143 appearances. He also scored 308 points, which includes 69 tries and 14 goals.
He left Wakefield at end of the 2007 season to join Bradford Bulls. During his two-season stay at the Bulls, he played 49 games for them and scored 15 tries.
In 2010, he left Bulls to rejoin Wakefield. During the 2010 season, the Australian half back has made 28 appearances for the Wakefield. He scored 59 points, which includes eight tries, 13 goals and field goal.
The Odsal Stadium based Bradford Bulls are currently struggling with injuries. The list includes their halfback Brett Kearney, whose hand was broken during the Bulls vs. Leeds encounter in April. The Bulls originally signed Ben Jeffries on an 18-month deal
in place of the injured Kearney.
Bradford coach, Mick Potter, has acknowledged and praised the 30-year-old halfback’s skills and capabilities and turned down the issues with his age. He said, “Ben is a quality player. He potentially can play a few more years after this so he's by no means
over the hill and could play a part for us in the future.”
Ben Jeffries himself had problems with his calf earlier in the season. After today’s release, Ben Jeffries is expected to feature for the Bulls in their next week encounter against Hull KR.
Later this year, Ben Jeffries is due to receive his British passport. He has also turned down any issues with connecting with the team and has emphasized that half of team used to be his team-mates.
