Can you buy stuff over the internet from Walmart's website with a Waltmart gift card, or do you need a credit card or to have it shipped to the nearest store?

Yes, you can use it to shop at Walmart.com.  If the gift card covers the entire amount you don't need a cc.  The ship to store option will save you on shipping costs, so your card will go farther.
