Question:

Wal-mart reference check consent - What does it mean exactly?

Got an application for Wal-mart, but i am a bit confused by it.

It says "Please provide at least 2 work-related references Wal-Mart may contact in the spaces below. List most recent employers, managers, supervisors only. Do not list family and friends"

Followed by asking the following x2.

"Supervisor's name - Position title - Name of Company - Address - Can we contact them - Phone number - Your position - Date of employment - Reason for leaving - Duties - "

I am unable to decipher if it means put down my most recent work supervisors and list home addresses / phone numbers for them? or give out the corporate information on my previous work experience? Or determine if they will call them and treat them as normal references or just call to check that i actually worked there or not.

I iz confuzed.(my last work does not give out references for people, and only verifys that you worked there, so i'd feel pretty dumb if they were asking for real references and i gave them a number that just says "Yes he worked here from this date to this date, has a nice day now!")

  2. they will just call and verify that you did work there so mark yes they can contec em(they dont always contact em though i think its more to see if you say yes or no)and put there work addresses for eveyrthing not there home numbers.

Also walmart will call a reference or 2 before they call you for an interview.good luck!

  3. You put down the employer work info. such as phone number and address. When I did interviews for walmart we could only verify employment  rate of pay and if they are rehirable ,I don't know if the reference check has changed any. Just be honest and you'll be fine.

  4. They want to know the names of someone you recently worked for and they want your permission to contact them.  If you have 2 recent ones that will give good references, use them.  If not, just give them the most recent ones.  You can't control what your references will say and many companies won't do anything more than verify what dates you worked for the company.  Don't stress too much about it.

  5. Just put down the corporate information.  I think they ask for the same info twice (in the previous work experience box and in the references box) just to see if you will fill it out.  Applications forms do not always make a lot of sense, sometimes intentionally, just like college applications that go on forever and ever.  I also understand what you mean when you say that your last job does not give out references.  I have been in the same situation, since one of my previous employers was the same way.  I have also had employers in the past who went out of business after I left, which makes contacting them pretty impossible.  Just fill it out as best you can, and if necessary explain the difficulty beside that section.  This is what I do, and I've never had any problems during interviews about it.  Good luck with your application!
