  1. Do yourself a favor and find a different employer. Wal-Mart is teh debbil.

  2. Once again, it depends on laws.. I mean, in Quebec (Can), if you are working on holidays, more than 40 hours per week, or more then 8 hours in a row, they HAVE TO pay you.. 1.5% more (or something like that). So, let's say your salary is 10$, you get 15$ on holidays (if you are working, of course. if you are not working, that day is paid anyway) or if you work 43 hours in the same week, you get 3 hours paid 15$, and etc.

In Canada, the best you can get (as a raise) is 50 cents, and that would mean that your job is really the quality of a manager's work. Most people gets 30 cents, and you can't get lower.

Night people have 1$ more every hours (I'm actually paid 8.65, but if i work 70 hours in two weeks, they had 70$ on my pay check).

Raise are usually once every year (on the day you got hired), but if your job is really great, you can ask for a raise whenever. I know that they also revised your file every year (around when you got hired) to see if your salary is high enough, compared to everyone else (I got hired april 18th 2006: 8,05$ , in 2007 i got a raised to 8,35$ , I'm 8,65$ since last week, but they revised my file so I'm gonna be 8,85$ next pay check. :))

    Clear enough ? :)

Edit: But we don't have anything more for working Weekend days :(    Go look on Pipeline, at work, and look for.. something like "Salary", you should have all the info ;)

  3. A lot of companys do that.  It starts with a base salary, then they pay a shift differential for working non-traditional days or hours.

That is because a lot of people choose to have their weekends or nights free and they need people to work those shifts.
