WalMart Wonder?

Question

I got a WalMart wonder mountain bike at a flea market, expecting very little. I think I got less than that. This thing drifts all over the street. I put cruiser tires on, and it got much faster & easier & and more fun, but I can't see why it shouldn't go straight by itself. Unless I'm just so old that my balance is shot.

You should check the headset to make sure it is secure and not wobbling all over the place (i.e. the front wheel is not turning independently of your handlebars).

You should also check the front wheel to make sure it doesn't have a bent rim.  If the wheel is bent, it needs to be trued.  If the wheel is bent very badly, you need a new wheel.

Wow----you just got ripped off buying a clunker from WalMart!!! Bob----read Mt. Bike Action magazine  or BIKE, and surf mtbr.com, bikeradar.com, and EBAY (www.ebay.com---Sporting Goods under CYCLING). If you feel old then take some supplements and health drinks and ride a d**n functional cool mt. bike----kick the salesguy's rear for selling you a piece of trash!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm not crazy about Wal-Mart bikes.  But as long as you've already got it, it might be able to be fixed to a point.  It's just a matter of time before something else breaks on it.

My guess is that your handlebars are  out of alignment with the front wheel.  When you  put your handlebars straight, your front wheel should point straight forward.  If not, then you've got to make an ajustment.  Maybe that  bolt isn't even tight, if your  front wheel is wobbling around.  That's the first thing I'd check.

more than likely the frame or fork is out of alignment. you might also check that the front wheel is bolted on tight although that should be obvious.

next time go to a bike shop.
