http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 has gone on to admit that he is very happy with the goal that he scored against Wigan Athletic, since he feels that the goal has helped the team nearly secure a spot in the Champions League.
The Gunners went on to face off against Wigan, with nothing but a win being what they needed. They went on to score the opening goal in the game, but then conceded a goal via a free kick.
However, Theo Walcott soon helped the team turn things around, as he scored a crucial goal which helped the team go on and take a two goals to one lead. From there on, it was all Arsenal, as they scored two more goals and went on to win by four goals to one at the end of the day. The result saw Wigan get relegated from the Premier League, but helped Arsenal stay on course to go on and secure Champions League football for the coming season.
When talking about the game, and the goal that he scored, Walcott is reported to have said: “Wigan coming off an absolutely fantastic FA Cup win, we always knew it was going to be difficult – every game is very difficult this season in the Premier League – and they showed great quality"
"It was probably a fair result at half time, to be honest, going in at 1-1. I felt they did play the ball quite well, but we've got to show character and we did. We came at them in the second half and showed them what we're really made of.”
"This is one of my most important goals and hopefully it can be a few more next weekend. Anything but the winner today. The guys did it, I'm so proud of them because we deserve it.”
Arsenal will now be taking on Newcastle United on the last day of the season. That game is going to be a must win for the team once again, since a win will help them ensure a top four finish, and avoid seeing their local rivals stand any chance to finish above them.
