Wales' Gareth Thomas announces his retirement - Rugby League
Gareth Thomas of Wales has announced his retirement from rugby, on Tuesday, October 25, which will see him depart international and club rugby immediately.
Emanuele Palladino from Thomas' management company Distinct said, “We can confirm that Gareth Thomas is officially retiring from both international and club rugby with immediate effect. This marks the end of what has been a remarkable career for a remarkable
person. Gareth hopes that through his achievements both on and off the field he has left a lasting legacy within the game."
Thomas added: “I have listened and discussed this decision with many of my family and close friends. My mind has told me that the time to retire is now.”
According to Thomas it is a very sad day because he feels that his decision has been taken because he would not be able to do justice to his job anymore. Therefore, the prop is marching out and leaving behind his on-field brilliance.
He also mentioned that if you are unable to give 100 percent to your game that means it is the right time for a player to quit. However, it was further clarified by him that it does not mean that the prop has lost all interest in the game.
He further added that he is not aware of what the future holds but it was surely not as exciting for him to spend another year on field as a rugby league player.
He also took the opportunity to thank everyone, who has been associated with him and he admitted that without everyone else who had shared the field with him, he would not have been able to achieve this much.
He further added that he is bidding farewell to his on-field role with the feeling that he has given the best of himself as a player and a person to rugby. He also thanked his family for their inundated support and encouragement through his career in both
codes of rugby.
According to Wales’ coach, Iestyn Harris, says that the amount of hard work the player has put into his game, is a proof of his passion for the game
