Wales’ Jamie Jones feels proud of making Crucible debut: 2012 World Snooker Championship
After putting up an excellent snooker show in the qualifying session of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, the Welshman Jamie Jones successfully made his way into the televised stages of the mega event. The Welsh
potter feels very proud of making his debut in the Championship and is quite hopeful for a better result in the tournament.
The Welshman had a convincing run in the recent snooker season with his good form. He began his campaign in the recent season with Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 and reached the quarter-final stage. However, he was not able to win many major events
but still he managed to retain his form with noticeable accomplishments in minor ranking events.
While speaking to the media, Jones said, “People have been coming up to me and saying well done on making The Crucible, which is great, it is a proud moment for me. But if I lose to Shaun in the first round I will be bitterly disappointed. I am in a rich
vein of form after my qualifying matches and feel confident I can go further.”
Jones played against England’s Andy Hicks in the penultimate round of the qualifying session and had a thrilling match. Both potters went neck-to-neck until the game entered into a decisive frame where Jones claimed victory. He faced another English potter,
Ben Woollaston in the final qualifier and easily defeated him by the score line of 10-3 to set up Shaun Murphy clash in the first round.
The Neath potter added, “I knew I would be facing a top 16 player so I was prepared for a big name in the draw. Shaun is a great player and if he starts hitting those long pots then he is dynamite.”
Jones is looking forward to give his best against the former World Snooker Champion from England. He knows that Murphy is a tough opponent for him but still he aims to play up to the mark so that he can cash his debut at the Crucible Theatre. It will be
interesting to see how Jones manages to put in a good performance during the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
