Wales’ Jamie Jones hits a stunner against John Higgins in Round 1: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Irish snooker fans present at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland witness the first major upset of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals when the Welshman, Jamie Jones clinched a stunner trashing the reigning World Snooker Champion,
John Higgins by the close score line of 4-3. The Welshman completely unnerved the Scotsman with his amazing snooker genius during the first round clash.
The Wizard of Wishaw, who was one of the most favourite potters to claim the title, failed to improvise according to the situation and tumbled down to the World Number 41. The young Welshman showed no mercy to the Champ and despite a tough resistance from
his opponent, he kept his cool until the end and claimed the victory, which is probably one of his best wins ever.
Higgins cruised past Jones with a superb 3-1 lead when he pocketed some stunning clearances to put Jones under immense pressure. But on the other hand, the 24-year-old Welshman did not lose hope and kept trying which paid him in the end when he hit three
consecutive frame wins to oust his opponent 4-3.
Speaking to World Snooker after his marvellous win over Higgins, Jones said, “I wasn't really expecting to win. To beat John in a TV match is fantastic, even though he didn't play well. I was very surprised at the balls he missed. He is so good tactically,
but he never got into any rhythm.”
He added, “In the frames I won I was quicker and more fluent, but he seemed flat. I thought he was getting away from so I just tried to hang in there. Once I got back to 3-3 I knew I had a chance and when I got the chance I took it. I'm still a bit nervous
but I'm getting used to it.”
The World Snooker Champion will be looking to revive his previous form to contain his glory because his form has not fulfilled his standards in the past few months especially after winning the World Championship. The Scot will be hoping to put in a good
performance if he wants to retain the world title.
