While talking to news reporter on Tuesday, October 24, Wales coach, Iestyn Harris, said that his side has pulled up their socks and are preparing to exhibit their ultimate best at the fast approaching Gillette Four Nations. The squad will see be in contention
against Australia, New Zealand and England.
Wales’ have qualified for the first time for the tournament after they have won 12-11 against France in last year’s European Cup .
The Welsh side is currently subject to many changes including the sudden retirement of Gareth Thomas from his playing role and high expectations. The squad is looking to match their performance with the mounting expectations regarding their much talked about
success.
Harris is not willing to speak about how well they have planned out their Four Nations clashes. Since Wales is no longer part of the Super League anymore, it is expected that they will out do their rivals to compensate for their exclusion from the Super
League berth.
While speaking about his plans, the Wales’ coach stated, "We're not going to shout from the rooftops about what our goals are. It's a very strong competition. We're against the three best teams in world rugby league. We've got some aims for what we want
to achieve in this tournament but we'll keep them to ourselves. Some great strides have been made in Wales over the last six or seven years. There are lots and lots of young men playing rugby league.”
He further added that there is a huge pool of choices to select for Wales, with almost 150 players who are willing to participate. It was also filled in by the coach who admitted that his side is far ahead of the schedule, which is a great opportunity for
them to make the best out of the opportunity.
Wales will kick-off their Four Nations campaign in Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, with Lee Briers returning to reign in as the skipper of the pack after missing out on their very recent 30-6 win over Ireland.
