  1. My heart says yes but my head says that the French are just a little bit too strong.

We should beat Scotland and Italy, if we can keep our composure up front and the pack can impose themselves on the Italian pack.  Neither Scotland nor Italy have much behind the scrum at the moment and some of our backs are world class - if they can get decent possession from the pack.

Ireland -v- Wales games are always weird because they never go according to plan for either team.  I think we have the edge over them this year though because O'Driscoll is certainly not firing on all cylinders at the moment and he really is their *lodestone*.  It's funny how the Irish always have one player around whom they rally - it used to be Keith Woods and now it's O'Driscoll - and if that one player has a quiet game then the whole team suffers.

As for France - well, who can tell with the French?  They're either wonderful or woeful.  I just think that they're a little too strong for us up front.

But hey, I'll settle for a Triple Crown!!

  2. Damien is going to go nuts about this...but I think we are in with a good shout...If Ireland and france pick up injuries to key players (as happens every year) then it is certainly on..probably is if they don't too..with the amount of confidence we have out of winning the first game..it will only be good..

Having said that winning the grand slam won't be good for us at all...and will probably see us losing all our coaches before they have taught us anything that will make a difference long term.

  3. Wales have no chance of winning GS! Give us a break!

They may finish 3rd and win 3, lose 2. That's pretty good for Wales.

  4. You're actually talking sense Nonenz, Wales are always worth a punt. But It's dangerous for the fans to get all fired up over taking England apart with a brilliant 30 minutes or so.

England aren't really the measuring stick that the new French out fit is. England have been lost for some time, and their bewildering, totally unpredicted hot and cold WC performance has just confused and probably retarded there development.

I think confidence is the last thing Wales needs. They need to play as a unit. Build a team mindset, of accuracy, and bringing it, for the full 80. There is no way in h**l Wales should have been tipped out of the RWC by the Fijians. That game was done and dusted, Wales had it won. Accuracy and grinding out basic set plays from putting the boot to the ball, playing out the remains of the game in Fiji's 22, watching the clock tick, with acuracy in defense was all that was needed. The same could be said of the earlier near miss played down under against Australia.

Leadership is the other weird thing. I have often wondered how individual players like Charvis could continue doing the incredible things he has done for so long and not have his work ethic, and skill sets rub off on the people around him - that's one difference a good coach can make.

And I know I keep hammering this point, but I will say it again, even if you do take the grand slam, it will be far to early to properly assess Mr Gatland's impact on the team.
