Wales injured player Gavin Henson to miss Six Nations
Gavin Henson’s hope for being a part of Warren Gatland’s Wales national squad for Six Nations 2011 have been drained down the pipe, after his injure that has forced him to be sidelined for at least three weeks.
He is suffering through calf injury and physiotherapist has shown no signs of hope for the newly returned celebrity. It must have been frustrating if he would have ruled himself out by tripping over a sequence on the dance floor. Instead, his recent downfall
is more wearisome, where he tore a calf muscle during Saracens trip to Dublin for a fruitless Heineken Cup fixture.
Henson limped off the field after coming as a substitute during 43-20 hammering by Leinster on Saturday. And the diagnosis uncovered his absence from career turning opportunity at Six Nations. The 28 year old centre has been keen to get as much game time
as he can since his arrival, in order to impress Warren Gatland and prove himself. But the double Grand Slam winner will surely be out for the matches against Scotland and England next month.
English captain, Lewis Moody, will get his reports tomorrow for his knee ligament damage. His presence in Six Nations depends on these reports. He suffered through this injury while playing against Aironi for Bath. Flanker went through several scans on Tuesday,
while Moody and his club are sure the injury is minor and he will be good-to-go for the Six Nations to lead England on 4th February in Millennium Stadium.
On the other hand Gatland is not short of options in midfield and Henson’s expectations might fade away with time. He came back to his original profession after a break of 20 months and is struggling since then. He has played just four games for Saracens
since then and started just one. Henson becomes among a long list of players who will be missing this year’s Six Nations due to an injury.
Gatland still has James Hook and Jamie Roberts at his panel for the centre positions and are in a physically and mentally fit form. Both of them are hot favorites to become the new centre pair for Wales against England. And with the return of Jonathan Davies
to the Welsh squad, Gavin Henson’s chances to be the part of World Cup squad are also on stake.
Michael Tagicakibau, back for Fiji, will also be missing Six Nations, as he has been ruled out for three weeks due to a hamstring tear.
Fiji lock, Hugh Vyvyan is also out for at least two weeks after spraining his ankle in a merciless fixture.
Steve Borthwick, former English skipper, will be going under a thorough scan today on shoulder. He picked up this shoulder injury against Clermont Auvergne in the final Pool 2 fixture on Friday night.
With around two weeks left to the most anticipated match between Wales and England; both the sides have suffered through major injuries issue. English manager, Martin Johnson, is surrounded by shockingly devastating injuries that might change the direction
of wind for England at Cardiff Stadium on 4th February. For England, Tom Croft, Courtney Lawes will not be playing due to injuries. Courtney Lawes has been ruled out for a long period of twelve weeks, due to a knee injury. To top it all off, the latest injury
of Steve Borthwick has increased the amount of stress and headache for Martin Johnson, who has been alarmed by the timing of former captain’s injury.
Wales is hosting the Heineken Cup final in May, but there is a rare chance that any of the four regional clubs of Wales will be making it to the final of Heineken Cup. Only Scarlets seem to be a hopeful contender to make it to the quarter finals and then
finals. Anyhow, upsets are a history of Heineken Cup and Gavin Henson will be missing out on both the charm of Six Nations and European Cup. It is not a dream start for any player who has earned a lot in his past.
