Wales will miss Warren Gatland Down Under – Rugby News Update
George North, who plays as a centre and on the wings for Wales, believes that Warren Gatland will be a big miss in Australia, when these two teams kick-off a three-match test series on the 9th of June 2012, Down Under.
Warren Gatland, the head coach of Wales from New Zealand, will not be part of the squad, as he is nursing two broken ankles, and in his place, Rob Howley has been appointed as the interim coach to lead the side in Australia.
North, the 20-year-old mercurial winger hopes that Gatland recovers soon and wishes him well. However, he does believe that Gatland will be a big miss in Australia, saying "But I am sure Rob will do a good job as all the other coaching staff will do,” and
he added further, "It will be a bit weird not having him there but I am sure we can cope."
The 6’4 winger has all the attributes to be a great of the game and having played an integral role in Wales' run to the 2011 Rugby World Cup semi-finals, he will be looking to enhance his reputation against the southern hemisphere opponents. Wales under
Gatland, who took over after the commencement of the 2007 World Cup, have only won a solitary match against teams from the southern hemisphere, which includes the likes of New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
On the ability of the team to rise up to the challenge, North was optimistic and praised the coaching staff. He said, "It will maybe affect us a little bit with the head coach not out there, but the quality of players we have now and the quality if the coaching
staff is very high.”
North who has 21 test caps to his name after making his debut against South Africa at the Millennium Stadium on 13th November 2010, is positive that Rob will do a great job and it will be a big trial for Wales, saying, "That's what the Australia
tour is all about, so it's a big test for Rob but I've got all the faith in him and I'm sure Warren has as well."
