this yard had a motion detector that went off while walking thru somebodys yard at night [dont ask why] and we kno it went off because a red light came on and we heard a high pitch noise - is it likely there was a camera that got a picture?

  1. The better question is why were you trespasing , saranora dnear

  2. Not likely, if they had a security camera set up, you would have been caught even without the lights.

  3. The high pitched noise was probably the ultrasonic source used to detect motion by the Doppler effect.  Yes, a small red light is often used to display when motion is detected.  Low-light surveillance cameras are readily available and inexpensive.  If there was enough light for you to see where you were walking, there was enough to photograph you.  Let us know whether the camera happened to capture images good enough to convict you.  That would depend on the details of the lighting, the security system, and which way you were facing.

  4. It is hard to say is there was a camera to begin with or not. There would most likely be a flood light that went on if there was a camera. Was this red light like an alarm light, or a spot light? If a camera did get you, it is must have night vision capabilities which means that it most likely did not get a clear picture of you if there was one to begin with.

Although motion detectors, and alarms are common features of an alarm system, cameras are less common because of the expense of a good camera, as well as the video recording technology and the wiring involved. Often people will put up fake rotating cameras.

I would recommend staying out of someone else's yard!
