Walker Ryan to go pro this weekend at Red Bull Manny Mania
The up and coming skateboarder from St. Helena, California, Walker Ryan is all set to go pro with his debut in Red Bull Manny Mania pro contest this weekend, August 21 to 22, in New York.
Organika skateboards, the long-time sponsor of Ryan, is responsible for convincing the amateur to step onto the pro ranks, giving him the necessary confidence and support.
The professional skateboarder and founder of Organika skateboards, Karl Watson is really excited over the fact that his company is playing a role in turning an amateur into a pro, the first time that the company is making it happen for an amateur skater.
Ryan admits that he is a bit nervous as he heads towards his first pro contest, where the best skaters from all around the globe will be converging to New York to showcase the best manuals in their arsenal. However, he expects the event to be fun, and is
excited to be able to see the likes of Brandon Biebel and Joey Brezinski in action up close.
When asked about the biggest perk of turning pro, his reply was, “Chicks jumping out of Hummers. Isn't that how it works? No, the perk to me that gets me hyped is doing more contests. That's something that I haven't done much of but I want to. I had hella
fun at the last Tampa contest. It seems like it would be a great outlet for traveling around. I remember watching all those old "411 Europe" videos where they were just going from country to country, doing all these sick contest. I want to jump on some of
those trips if they still go on.”
The St. Helena-based skater loves travelling around the world to skate in different spots and plans on spending his first pro check to buy a plane ticket to somewhere, most likely South America or some Spanish speaking country.
The Red Bull Manny Mania is a World Final event scheduled to get underway in New York this weekend. Amateur skaters from 31 countries will be showing off their best manuals in the Manny Mania World Final on Saturday, while the winners of the contest will
advance to Sunday’s Red Bull Manny Mania Pro contest to compete for the $10,000 prize money on offer.
