  1. No.  When riding you should ride in the same direction as traffic.  Many people think that it is safer to ride in the direction that has them facing oncoming traffic.  This is VERY unsafe for two reasons.

    1.  The leading cause of motor vehicle-bike collisions is caused by cars pulling out of driveways and looking left for approaching traffic, and ignoring the knuckle head on the bike comming from the right, riding opposed to traffic.

    2.  You will be forced into traffic by riders like me who ride with traffic, and get annoyed by knuckleheads going the wrong way, and will not yield.

  2. Yes, pedestrian traffic is always on the same side weather it is walking, biking, or walking a bike

  3. When riding a bike (I prefer to call it DRIVING a bike) you go with the flow of traffic. In the US that means driving on the right side of the road and moving into the left lane when turning left. In other words, you drive your bike just like you drive your car. That way you'll be more predictible to automobile drivers and sharing the road properly.

Its generally recommended (again in the US) that you walk against the flow of traffic. But if you're on a sidewalk I don't know what difference it would really make. I think the bottom line when walking at the side of the road is to be as safe as possible and that may be something you'll have to make a judgement call on per a case by case basis.
