Question:

Walking and running the same?

Now, I've learned that walking and running (technically jogging since most of us don't RUN miles on end like we do jogging) the same distance is relatively burning off the same amount of calories (with a little difference of efficiency, but still basically pretty close). Cardiovascularly speaking, running is better, however I'm not looking to be the fastest runner in the world. The question is, would the results of fat loss be pretty much the same if I were to walk rather than run a certain distance regularly over a certain period of time? (Assuming that my diet allows for fat loss)

Ex.

Running 3 miles 3x/week for 2 months= walking 3 miles 3x/week for 2 months?

  1. your body burns fat if you dont tax it, since fat is a slow burner, once you start jogging, you need more energy faster, and your body cant get that energy in from fat, so it switches to glycogen for energy, thats why its better to walk for fat burning than run

  2. idk where u read that, but running burns ALOT more calories than walking. walking 3mph burns about 500 cals in an hour for me, and jogging 5mph for 1 hr burns almost 1000. and yes although walking gets you into the "fat burn" zone burning more, overall calorie loss will help more with fatloss. do both! run one day, then walk the next.  but yeah, just do whichever you're more comfortable with, as long as u burn more than u take in, you'll lose weight.
