Wallabies 2011 Rugby World Cup preparations suffered blow after Richard Brown injured
Wallabies’ star international back row forward, Richard Brown, has been ruled out of the upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC). Brown was struggling with shoulder injury, but for one reason or other, he avoided undergoing a surgery on the shoulder. Instead,
he opted to take chance to recover from the injury without a surgery.
Brown confirmed that he will undergo surgery to reconstruct his injured shoulder, which would in turn rule him out from the game for the next 3 to 4 months. He made the comments on Wednesday, July 27 even though Brown injured his shoulder during the 2010
season.
Brown said, “It hasn't been good for a while. I just wasn't playing as well as I could.”
He added, “I knew when I hurt myself last year it was going to be hard to make the World Cup. I knew I was going to have to push through to make it but I couldn't push through it anymore.”
The 26-year-old Brown has expressed his disappointment on not being able to participate in Rugby’s premier tournament. He added, “I need the operation and that's it. It's best to have it now and get it over with to get ready for next season.”
Brown’s un-availability has further depleted the Wallabies back row forward stocks. Wallabies already are without the services of Wycliff Palu, who is also suffering from a shoulder injury.
Queensland born Brown was the definite inclusion in the Robbie Deans’ final 30-man squad for Wallabies 2011 RWC campaign. Before the start of the 2011 Tri Nations, Deans announced that he will consider Brown, if he recovers from his injury.
Brown so far has represented Wallabies in 23 international tests. He plays for the Perth based, Western Force, in the Super Rugby competition.
Western Force’s head coach, Richard Graham, has expressed his disappointment on the news. He said, “Richard has worked hard over the past 17 months to continue to play without the need for the surgery. However, there was always going to come a point that
he would need to have it done.”
