Wallabies 67 – 5 victory over USA Eagles has left team with multiple injuries – Rugby News
The Australian national Rugby Union team, commonly known as the Wallabies, is back on the winning track after they have completed their thumping 62 point victory over the USA Eagles in their 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) Pool C encounter on Friday, September 23 at Westpac Stadium, Wellington.
The win has placed the 2011 Tri Nations champions Wallabies at the top position in pool C. Following their shocking defeat at the hands of the Wales, Friday’s win has put them in the right state of mind as they begin their preparations for the knock out rounds.
However, Friday’s win has come at the cost of injuries to a number of their players. The list includes players like Anthony Faingaa, Rob Horne, Pat McCabe, Kurtley Beale and Wycliff Palu.
Wallabies head coach, Robbie Deans, confirmed the injury concerns in his comments, which he made at the end of the game. He said, “It's pretty extensive, the full extent we don't know.”
Wallabies’ outside centre, Anthony Faingaa, was taken off the field after a knock left him unconscious on the ground during the last minute of the Friday’s game. His centre partner, the inside center Rob Horne, fractured his cheekbone earlier in the game.
Pat McCabe replaced Horne in the 47th minute of the game. Later in the 72nd minute of the game, Pat McCabe left the field after dislocating his shoulder. Wallabies number eight, Wycliff Palu, came off the field with a hamstring problem in the 53rd minute of the game, while at the end of the game Deans said that Beale had “tightened up.”
Deans further added, “We may have (to call people into the squad), we will have to see what the medics say.” He added that they have a week break before their next game against the Russia, which will give them enough time to analyze the injuries and their extent. He added knowing the full extent of the injuries, will help the management in making their decision.
In addition to this, Wallabies versatile backs duo of Digby Ioane and David Pocock are yet to recover from their thumb and back injuries.
