Wallabies’ Quade Cooper aware of ‘tough road’ ahead in the 2011 Rugby World Cup – Rugby news
Australian international Rugby Union player, Quade Cooper, has acknowledged that Wallabies’ shocking 15 – 6 defeat by the hands of Ireland has made the things difficult for them in the ongoing 2011 Rugby World Cup.
He made the comments while giving an interview to AAP on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
Cooper said, “The road that we have from here on in is a tough road but one that everyone's up for. We're in a good position that this one game isn't the end of the road for us. It just makes the road a little bit more tougher.”
Ireland defeated Wallabies 15 – 6 at Eden Park, Auckland on Saturday, September 17 during the Pool C encounter of the 2011 RWC.
Cooper added that it is because of such unexpected results one realises the importance of winning each and every game.
He said, “This sort of game makes you realise this tournament only comes around every four years and losing one game can be detrimental to the rest of the tournament.”
2011 Super Rugby champions, Queensland Reds, fly half cooper acknowledge that the Wallabies were not able to match the Irish intensity in the match, which has earned them a defeat. He has expressed his disappointment with the match results.
He added, “There's a point where you've got to say 'we messed up there and as a team we've got to do better.”
Besides delivering the first real big upset of the tournament, in which Ireland has defeated the 2011 Tri Nations winner and one of the tournament favourites Wallabies, Ireland defeat has changed the course of the future matches of the tournament.
Wallabies find themselves in a situation where they need to win both of their remaining pool matches against the USA Eagles and Russia to qualify for the quarter finals, where they most likely will play against the Springboks. Additionally, it is likely
that they will take on the All Blacks in the tournament semi-finals, provided that they make to the top four of the tournament.
Cooper added that they team has to put behind this defeat and now has to concentrate on their future matches. He added that the new to rejuvenate the momentum to reach the finals and win there.
