Wallabies boosted by Drew Mitchell, Ben Alexander in Six Nations
Drew Mitchells the Waratahs winger acknowledges his signing with NSW last year as key aspect in now extending his tenure with his national side prior to Rugby World Cup this year. Other than Mitchell Ben Alexander the Brumbies prop gave another boost up
to the Australian side, when they signed with the rugby union of Australia till the 2013 season’s end.
The 26 year old winger, Mitchell has already played a successful season last year and is in good form right now. He stood out when he played in NSW in almost every match and also showed up in 14 out of 15 of Australia’s tests in 2010. He has an experience
of 3 seasons in Western Force in Perth.
He said, “2010 was probably one of the best seasons I've played and I think that has a lot to do with being in Sydney.” He will be joining utility back Adam Ashley-Cooper and hooker Stephen Moore as Wallabies' re-contracted players in the past week.
He has recently proved to be the backbone of Wallaby’s team and cemented his placed in the national team for the coming two years. Talking about his good experiences he added, “I really enjoy living in Sydney and the culture we have at the Waratahs is one
which brings out the best in everyone.”
Drew Mitchells has a decent record of scoring 27 tries in his 55 tests he played for Wallabies. This is the reason why he is already getting heavy offers from French Clubs. The former Queensland fly-half has an option of picking up any of the lucrative French
deal and fly away, but the signing today has indicated otherwise.
He said, “For me, I just wasn't equipped to kind of go at the point I'm at, and I thought that if I was going to go to France now, I would end up regretting it a little bit later in life, and I just didn't want to have to live with that.”
He is dedicated to Wallabies and is determined to bring the World Cup home this year. There are possibilities that he will be considering the French deals after the World Cup and possibly be flying away to cash his dreams.
On the other hand Alexander is extremely pleased with this development. He said, “I get to stay in Australia and evidently with my dearly loved Brumbies, so I couldn't be more contented.”
He just recovered from a knee injury after a surgery. He will be playing all the five tests for Australia in this tournament.
He added, “As far as my progress goes, I still sense that Australia is the finest place for me to be if I am to develop into the top player that I can be.”
