Wallabies full-back Adam Ashley-Cooper inspired to achieve 100 rugby tests milestone
Wallabies full-back and senior player, Adam Ashley-Cooper, has expressed his desire to extend his international rugby career to more than 100 tests. Talking to journalists on November 18, the 27-year-old player said that he is very inspired by those players
who have participated in over 100 tests and wanted to stand among them at the end of his career. Cooper made his international debut in 2005 and so far has participated in 63 matches for Australia.
Adam Ashley-Cooper started off his professional rugby career with Brumbies in 2004 and toured South Africa along with derby. He was featured in both matches and proved his status as one of the elite players in the game. His most successful Super Rugby season
was seen in 2006 when he participated in 12 games of the event and hailed his side with number of good performances.
Cooper concluded his six years long Super Rugby career with Brumbies at the end of 2011 as he decided to join New South Wales Waratahs.
He has played at various positions for Wallabies during his 63 tests with the side. His natural place is in the back lines but at times he has proven his abilities to play at winger and outside centre’s position.
While talking to the reporters about his career prolonging desire, Cooper said that, he was enjoying his time with the Wallabies and wanted to play at least 100 tests for his side. He added that, “When I started, I was the only versatile utility back and
I was thrown around (different positions), but I still started. I enjoyed changing week to week because that was a challenge for me. I was enjoying the (utility) tag and you look at it now, the way it's changed, I feel like I've been a little bit responsible
for that.”
He also stated that, “Just the way how important being a utility or being versatile is in the backline with the way the game has changed, so I consider myself a bit of a trendsetter.”
Adam Ashley-Cooper has been featured in Wallabies squad that is leaving for British tour for a couple of test matches.
