Wallabies’ player Pat Phibbs extends his stay with Exeter Chiefs - Rugby News
Wallabies’ player, Pat Phibbs, is reported to have extended his contract with the Exeter Chiefs until the end of the current season of Aviva Premiership. Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter told the media on November 3, about the new deal and said that the Wallaby
scrum-half has impressed the club management and his further stay will boost the team. Phibbs was included in Chiefs squad during September 2011. He was offered a deal by Exeter management which he accepted without any hesitation.
Pat Phibbs has played his all professional rugby in Australia and has remained part of various sides during his career. He made his Super Rugby debut in 2005 while playing for Brumbies. He represented the derby for consecutive five years and played 73 games
for Brumbies.
He has also played international rugby for Australia, when he was included in Wallabies squad in 2008, in Australia A Pacific Nations Cup. He was released by the Brumbies after the end of Super Rugby championship 2011, and he made a new contract with Exeter
Chiefs for a short tenure.
Talking to reporters about the renewal of Aviva Premiership deal of Phibbs, Baxter said that initially it was a tough decision to make as far as his inclusion in the side was concerned. He added that there was no roam for him in Chiefs’ side in the presence
of experienced guys like Kev and Haydn.
He also said that, “I suppose the thing that has impressed me most about him is that he came to us in difficult circumstances. He arrived on a short-term contract; he had very little time to prove himself and there was no guarantee that he would get any
game time or a contract in the future. Yet from day one he has got stuck in and worked extremely hard.”
He further stated that, “Pat's deserved it, he's earned it the hard way .Obviously the more time he has spent with us we've got to know him better and learn more about his character.”
Pat Phibbs is also delighted to have another opportunity to play in Aviva Premiership championship.
