Well, I'm planning on fishing for walleyes someday next week since thier biting pretty good on the Mississippi right now. I read somewhere about fishing with a 3-way rig for them. I understand you use a 3 way swivel attached to the main line, a sinker on the dropper and either a spinning rig or just a plain hook on the other. I think i'll be using nightcrawlers or maybe leeches but do i use a whole one on the small hook or what?? Will 8-10lb mono line work on a spinning outfit alright?? I will be fishing near wingdams, from the bank, with optimal current. How should i reel it in?? Keep contact with the bottom?? Any help or tips would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

  1. This be the type riggin' I use for drift fishin' Steelhead and I'm sure it be the same concept for Walleye aka ol "Moon-Eyes", only difference may be the use of pencil lead weight and surgical tubing ;)... < ' ( (( > <

  2. Tie the piece with the sinker with a lighter weight line than the line you are using on your reel.  make it between 6 and 18 inches depending on how far up in the water you want to keep your bait.  walleye usually feed 6-12 inches off the bottom.  tie the hook of the spinning rig or hook with the same weight line as on your reel,  8 lb test probably the best, 10 is a little heavy and there is not that much difference in strength.  the reason for the lighter line on the weight is so that if the weight gets caught on rocks, etc, it will break off and you won't lose your rig.  use leech, minnow, or full nightcrawler on a hook with about two feet of line tied to the swivel.  you'll feel a tap, tap and the fish will start to pull away, let it take some line, then close the bail and set the hook.
