Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012: Mika Miyazato ties for second spot
Japanese Mika Miyazato exhibited a phenomenal performance in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, as she registered an overall 202 to finish tied for the second position on the leaderboard.
Mika, who has proved her mettle by recording good finishes in recent tournaments, entered the first round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship with full confidence.
The match was played at Pinnacle Country Club, Rogers, with a solid roster featuring a number of battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
No matter how hard the field might be, the j*p played the three rounds in an impressive style and kept ramping up pressure on rivals by posting good scores in each of the rounds.
Mika got off to a good start, as posted a 70 in the first round. She looked in a great form, and other rivals were seen struggling to surge past her.
The second round saw the young prodigy fire a stunning 65 — something analysts said proved to be a game changer for her. With six birdies and no bogey, Mika managed to solidify her position in the leaderboard.
She kicked off the last round in the same style, as she fired a 67 to further strengthen her position. She shot five birdies and one bogey.
Analysts said that the LPGA giant could have made the situation more difficult for her nearest rivals, but making sloppy strokes on some holes hampered her from advancing.
Speaking to the media at the end of the tournament, Mika said that she is thrilled about her performance. She said that she is in a much stronger position now, as her putting has improved greatly in recent
months.
“I played very well front nine, with four birdies so I play aggressive, very patient, so everything good the first nine. Back nine is very tough on me, like I made a birdie chance, I can make it, so very disappointing,
but another great experience for me,” the Japanese golfer said.
When asked how she felt after finishing one spot behind her fellow Japanese Ai Miyazato, Mika said that she did not think that she would be playing like top-ranked contenders.
Ai Miyazato won the tournament after posting an overall 201.
“She (Ai) is very good, so I'm happy to hear, so I'm second place two weeks in a row so maybe more chance maybe next week,” Mika shared.
