Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012: Paula Creamer ties for 35th position in first round
American Paula Creamer got off to a slow start in the opening round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, as she shot a 71 to stand tied for the 35th position on the leaderboard.
Although Creamer has not been performing up to the mark in the current season, her fans appear to have put their trust in her capabilities. However, the American star could not do what she had vowed before setting foot on the course.
She made a shaky start on Friday, as she messed up her leaderboard position by shooting four straight bogeys on the par-5 2nd, par-3 3rd, par-4 4th and par-4 5th hole. She then parred the next hole and tried to regain her composure.
Creamer, who has been famous for her solid putting, seemed to be under massive pressure after marring the scorecard. However, she attempted to keep alive the fading hopes of her fans when she drained two back-to-back birdies on the 7th and 8th hole.
On the back nine, she performed a little better and improved her score in an attempt to match strides with rivals. Creamer posted three birdies and one bogey on the last 9 holes, strengthening her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that the American prodigy does not appear to be in high spirits in the ongoing tournament, as she has been struggling to fix some fatal flaws in her putting. Bad putting and lousy strokes seemed to have taken a serious toll on overall performance.
Speaking to the media, the 25-year-old golfer said that she is really concerned about her slumping performance, and has been trying to improve putting.
“I've been working on my putting a lot, especially this week,” said Creamer.
“I think I've spent a lot of time out on the putting green. I'm trying to change my routine a little bit, trying -- my stroke, I was getting a little bit not as -- I'm more of a square to -- I'm sorry, inside square to square putter and I've been starting to get a little bit outside and just consistently the roll hasn't been good and I've been really working on that”.
Currently ranked 12th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, the golfing sensation has vowed to regain her lost glory in the upcoming events.
