Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012: Ryann O’Toole falters in the last round
American Ryann O’Toole, who got off to an amazing start in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, faltered in the last round as she posted a 77.
O’Toole grabbed attention by performing well in the start of the tournament, as she stood tied for the 6th position at the end of the opening round.
Although the American star was not among the prominent players in the roster, she made it hard for the other contenders to play comfortably.
She recorded a 68 each in the first and second round and struck fear into her rivals. However, the rising golfer faced a severe blow when she tumbled to tie-43 position in the third round.
Analysts said that the LPGA star was playing with full confidence and came close to beating players like Ai Miyazato. However, making sloppy strokes in the final moments has exposed some fatal flows in her
putting.
O’Toole’s worst performance was seen in the third round, as she made two straight bogeys on the first two holes. She then parred the difficult par-3 3rd hole and marred her position by shooting a
double bogey on the 4th hole
The struggling star tried to regain her composure, as she drained an impressive birdie-putt on the par-4 5th hole.
Analysts said that O’Toole started the tournament in a sensible style, but a grim performance in the last round was the real reason behind a steep slump in her leaderboard position.
On the back nine, O’Toole appeared to remain under pressure, as she shot three bogeys and just one birdie. She let her fans down yet again when she recorded another two back-to-back bogeys on the 15th
and 16th hole.
Commentators said that the 25-year-old golfer has not been able to win an LPGA victory, so it makes sense for her to lose confidence, especially in the presence of top-ranked contenders like Yani Tseng, Stacy
Lewis and Suzann Pettersen.
O’Toole spoke to the media at the end of the second round. She said that she is seeking to prove her worth in big events.
“I just felt like I'm really staying in the moment and I'm keeping myself just not focusing on what happened in the past, what's going on, you know, in front of me and just staying one shot at a time,” she
said.
